So here I am sitting in Caffe Nero, yes actually INSIDE! this did not seem as if it would ever be possible again, but here I am, taking a few deep breathes, watching the world go by outside and feeling extremely lucky.
I wanted to use today, with no dog and no daughter around, to have a little time to myself. I wanted to feel a little normality and use this time wisely to keep you all up to date on my progress.
So there have been a few huge developments recently that I am very proud to announce. First of all, when I am not making and baking all of your goodies, I shall be working as a secretary in an Estate Agents. Now some of you must be thinking, well she must not be doing very well in business if she has to go and get another job as well. But we have to be realistic, I have a daughter to look after and bills to pay, so thinking that a business will all of a sudden be making a huge profit after just a couple of months is crazy.
Don't get me wrong, I hugely believe in my business and love what I create, but at this early stage it is good to have a backup plan and have some extra income from somewhere else as well. My lovely customers have nothing to worry about though as my job will only be 3 days a week to begin with, so it will not interfere with my service to you at all, so please do keep the orders coming, I love creating pieces of edible art to make all your occasions special.
I was very very lucky to be offered a job at such an awful time, as you may have read in previous blogs, I was made redundant back in March, this seemed terrible at the time, but I believe this was a blessing in disguise. I have obviously managed to start 'The Make & Bake House', but recently my brother informed me of a job that was up for grabs with a client of his. Having worked for my brother for many years, I already knew this client rather well, after speaking with them for several years on the phone. I was asked to go for an informal interview, and it was great to meet these clients in person after so many years chatting on the phone and tending to their queries.
Whilst I was at my interview my brother showed up at the office to my surprise. I instantly went from professional in my interview, to silly little sister and blurted out 'oh my god I can't believe my brother just gate crashed my interview'. I then found out he was there as the estate agents didn't actually have my phone number and called my brother to pass on a message to delay the interview, but instead of answering the phone, he decided to drop in instead. This did however break the ice and settle my nerves slightly. I was so nervous to go for an actual interview after so many years, for a job in an actual office. I have been so used to working from home for roughly 12 years, that the idea of going to work was very daunting indeed. But sometimes we just have jump in feet first and hope for the best. Believe me, for many reasons I nearly turned the job down, but I found the courage and accepted the job. I am hoping now that this will be the start of something amazing and will work well along side running 'The Make & Bake House'.
'The Make & Bake House' is also going from strength to strength, don't get me wrong it is a very slow process, that will take time to build, but the orders are still coming in, with a huge 50 cupcake order in a couple of weeks and many other, cupcake, biscuit, cake topper and card orders in-between. Etsy has certainly been amazing for my business, with many of my personalised biscuit box orders coming from there, but the orders on the website are gradually building as well.
I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported me in many ways and I look forward to letting you know further progress soon.
