I love to look back at old photos and reminisce about all the happy memories I have had. I find that this allows me inspiration with my makes and bakes.
One very happy memory for me was my grandparents golden wedding anniversary. 50 years of marriage is a huge achievement, and although they hit rocky patches on occasions and at times I would hear the words ‘excuse my French’ because one of them had sworn at the other. When times got really hard, for example if one of them was poorly, and needed some TLC, the other would always run around making breakfast in bed, getting a hot water bottle and generally being the best life partner you could wish for.
The day of the golden wedding anniversary, I was pregnant and had my daughter Amber 3 days later. I was having the occasional contraction, but they were very far apart. I seem to remember Amber loving the music and doing a little dance in my belly, she still loves music now and her love of dance has certainly grown.
At that point I had no interest in making cakes at all, this came later when Amber was 3 and I wanted to make all her birthday cakes, so was asked to make all the flower arrangements. I have always had a creative side, so I think my mum knew, that putting me in charge of the flowers was a fabulous idea. I filled my grandparents house with hundreds of cream and yellow flowers, not only did it look amazing, but it smelt amazing too.
Thinking about these very fond memories, inspired me to create the Anniversary collection. Oh how I wish I had of been making cakes 14 years ago, my grandparents would have adored my golden delicious wonders. But at least every time I make my anniversary collection, I will have the very happy thoughts from 14 years ago.
